Saks’ Styles Jump to Rival Downtown Merchants
Merchants to offer additional upscale clothing lines
Larrimor’s is now carrying Lafayette 148 New York spring styles in its Downtown store. The chic women’s line used to be sold at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Starting in June, Escada, Giorgio Armani, Lida Baday and St. John women’s clothing for fall will arrive at Larrimor’s, co-owner Lisa Slesinger said. Women’s clothing will fill 40 percent, up from 25 percent, of the store off the Fifth Avenue entrance of One PNC Place.
Larrimor’s and other Downtown merchants are viewing the imminent closing of Saks as a chance to pick up its former customers who work in nearby office towers or live in the city and suburbs.
Slesinger said Larrimor’s carried some Lida Baday pieces a few years ago until Saks started carrying that line. “When Saks brought a lot in, I couldn’t compete with them. … I have always had to differentiate us by having unique products,” she said.
Larrimor’s new offerings are aimed at former Saks shoppers. “Every one was a brand that we felt we could easily take care of for clients,” Slesinger said.
This fall, Larrimor’s men’s business will offer jackets and other tailored items by Hugo Boss, adding to its selection of shirts of that brand.
